About this place
When a hearty meal is in order, the standout perk here is the generous portion policy: diners can choose anywhere from 1 to 3 servings of soba for the exact same base price. Azuma Katagihara pairs its moderately firm noodles with a dried-fish dashi broth, served either piping hot in soup or chilled on a zaru bamboo tray. If an order turns out to be less than filling midway through, extra noodles can also be requested, making it easy to tailor the meal to any appetite.
Beyond standalone noodle orders, the kitchen prepares a broad range of combination sets served alongside rice bowls. Options span staples like pork cutlet katsudon, an ebi-tendon set featuring 3 prawns, a vegetable tempura bowl, and a ryukyu bowl inspired by Oita regional cooking, ensuring plenty of variety for lunch or dinner. The menu also branches into hearty dipping-style soba creations, including warm duck broth, spiced duck curry nanban, and spicy leek dipping noodles.
Diners can customize simple bowls of soba with an assortment of add-on toppings, such as assorted tempura, prawn kakiage fritters, beef nanban, and soft-poached onsen eggs. At the end of the meal, you can request hot sobayu (noodle cooking water) to dilute the dipping sauce, with yuzu kosho citrus-chili paste on hand if you prefer a bright, peppery finish.
A spacious counter makes solo visits completely comfortable, while booth seating comfortably accommodates family meals. The restaurant features its own on-site free parking lot and operates continuously from midday through the evening, providing a convenient, unfussy stop for a late lunch or relaxed dinner.
